The Game of Thrones Telltale game is way beyond my original expectations. I began playing episode one simply from reading some of the reviews online from fellow GoT fans. Having not really given Telltale games much of a chance, I decided that this might be the game that persuaded me to board the Telltale fan train. Having just played through Episode one, I can honestly say I’m addicted. In the Game of Thrones, you never know what to expect, when you think you’re making the right decision, things don’t always go as well as you thought they would.
I couldn’t put my controller down, I just wanted to keep playing to see where my actions had taken me, and how they had ultimately decided the fate of not just individual characters, but the entire House of Forrester. We begin our journey with Garred Tuttle, Ethan Forrester and Mira Forrester swapping between the three characters to take on different scenes, but to achieve the same goal in saving the house.
I don’t think the consequences of the actions I chose to take in the game would vary too much if I was to replay it, but the plot twists and character developments are incredibly immersive. When making decisions however, we don’t get a lot of time to think over our choices, and at times of combat, we are given a series of random control buttons to press promptly, which keeps us on edge throughout.
Playing as a few familiar faces from the popular TV series, we find ourselves in a few tricky situations, as right from the beginning of the episode we find ourselves thrown into the midst of battle.
The story is incredibly well written, keeping us guessing as to whats coming next, and never failing to disappoint when tempers start to rise, and things begin to get out of hand, it comes down to making quick, important decisions not just for the good of your character, but the people around you.
The characters we love in the TV series take on the same persona’s in-game, and are voiced by the original actors themselves, adding to the authenticity of each character. After watching the TV series, we’re accustomed to bad language, and don’t expect anything else in game, the characters are definitely not shy when it comes to speaking their minds.
Although the graphics are nothing special, they are exactly what we’ve come to expect from Telltale, and the re-playability factor well outweighs the need for better graphics. An exciting, highly immersive storyline is what you’re getting for your money, and it’s well worth it.
There’s absolutely no doubt that after playing the first episode, I’ll continue to purchase the other five. It’s an absolute must for all Game of Thrones fans.
